MANILA, Philippines — Criminal complaints were filed against a Chinese national who was arrested in Makati City on Monday for allegedly practicing medicine without a license, the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) reported on Thursday night.

Haitao Gong, 34, underwent inquest proceedings before the Makati prosecutor’s office for violation of Republic Act 2382 or the Medical Act.

CIDG director Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr. said the operation was based on the complaint of a woman who accused Gong of illegal practice of medicine by operating Avonnea Skin Care Center, a clinic offering various cosmetic treatments and procedures.

Gong was arrested while performing medical services. When confronted by police, he could not present documents for his authority and license to practice medicine.

Police confiscated cosmetic products, medical instruments and P1,000 in marked money from the suspect.
