Meralco assists typhoon-hit Ilocos Norte
MANILA, Philippines — Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), the largest power distribution firm in the country, has extended support to communities and families affected by Super Typhoon Egay in Ilocos Norte.
Meralco deployed 32 engineers and linemen to help restore power and conduct clearing operations in the province.
The power firm conducted relief operations in areas severely affected by the bad weather.
It deployed a fleet of vehicles such as pickup and basket trucks as well as cranes to fast-track power restoration.
Meralco said it is coordinating its restoration works with local government units and power cooperatives.
The company’s social development arm, One Meralco Foundation (OMF), along with the MVP Group of Companies mobilized a relief operation to address the needs of typhoon victims.
The group has so far donated 1,150 relief packs, water filtration devices, hundreds of six-liter bottles of clean water, 550 health kits and an mWell OnTheGo package.
The OMF is closely working with representatives of local government units to ensure efficient distribution of donations.
“We continue to provide support, especially in areas badly hit by Super Typhoon Egay. Hopefully, in our small way, we can help affected communities recover and rebuild, providing them the resources they need to cope in this difficult time,” Meralco vice president and head of corporate communications Joe Zaldarriaga said.
