MANILA, Philippines — Residents of Barangay Nangka were evacuated yesterday after the second alarm was raised as the water level in the Marikina River continued to rise due to heavy rains brought by Super Typhoon Egay.

Eighteen families were evacuated to the barangay covered court while 11 families took shelter at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina, city public information officer Lou Navarro told The STAR.

Navarro said the evacuation of residents was a preemptive measure. No flooding was recorded in the city.
