Egay floods parts of Metro Manila
MANILA, Philippines — Heavy rains brought by Super Typhoon Egay caused floods in several areas of Metro Manila yesterday.
Valenzuela reported that some roads in the city were flooded but remained passable to vehicles.
Floods also affected M.H. del Pilar street in Barangay Maysilo, Malabon and parts of Rizal Avenue in Caloocan before dawn yesterday.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said it did not record floods in any of the major thoroughfares in Metro Manila under its jurisdiction. The MMDA also said that all its 71 pumping stations were functional but reminded the public to avoid throwing garbage at waterways.
The MMDA also suspended the operation of the Pasig River Ferry System.
Meanwhile, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in the National Capital Region (NCR) will collaborate with the United Nations Development Program under the Strengthening Institutions and Empowering Localities against Disasters and Climate Change (SHIELD) program, a resilience initiative supported by the Australian government.
SHIELD will support the DILG-NCR’s new Upscaling Plans for Resilient Urban Governance project, which will work with city planning officials to ensure that their comprehensive development plans are climate and disaster risk-informed and aligned with national laws and policies. – Pia Lee-Brago
