MANILA, Philippines — Five workers died and two others were injured when a bridge under construction in Sitio Kibaka, Barangay Malamba in Marilog district in Davao City collapsed on Monday.

Jay Bangonan, 22, and Rolando Abing, 40, were initially declared dead at the scene.

The bodies of Cris Napao, 44; Jimboy Liga, 28, and Elmer Sayson, 44, who were pinned by the collapsed bridge that fell into a river, were recovered yesterday.

Meljay Bero, 29, and Jonathan Dispo, 38, were injured and taken to the Kibalang Hospital for treatment.

Police said 10 workers of Bojus Sun Builders & Supply Corp. were installing the side panel of the bridge using a boom truck parked on the center of the bridge when it collapsed.

Probers have yet to determine if the bridge collapsed due to the weight of the boom truck.
