3 die in South Cotabato road mishap

KORONADAL CITY, Philippines — Three members of a family died after a van hit their motorcycle in Tupi, South Cotabato on Saturday.

Jomar Fermalino, 50; his daughter Shena, 10, and his mother-in-law Selvia Bastan, 77, died at the scene of the accident that occurred along General Santos-Koronadal Highway in Barangay Palian.

Reports said the victims were headed to Surallah town when a van rearended their motorcycle.

The van sped away after the incident.

Police have yet to locate and identify the van driver.

Meanwhile, in Quezon province, a couple died while their son and grandson were injured in a vehicular accident in San Andres town on Saturday morning.

Felix Duaso, 49, and his wife Thelma, 48, died while being treated at the San Narcisco Municipal Hospital and Quezon Medical Center, respectively.

The couple’s son Ferdie, 18, and grandson Mark James, 6, were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries.

Reports said the victims were on a motorcycle driven by Ferdie when they were hit by an ambulance in Barangay Camflora at around 9:30 a.m.

The impact threw Ferdie off the motorcycle while his companions fell on the ground.

The ambulance rolled into a ditch.

Ambulance driver Ricardo Lihay-Lihay was taken to the police station for questioning.
