PNP pushes MUP fund as 1,793 cops opt to retire
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police has intensified its information drive on the proposed reforms in the military and uniformed personnel (MUP) pension fund as 1,793 PNP personnel have filed applications for optional retirement so far this year.
Speaking to reporters, PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said yesterday that consultations across the country are ongoing to get inputs and concerns from police officers on the MUP reforms.
“We must admit many are concerned that their pension would be reduced,” she said in a news briefing at Camp Crame.
Fajardo said some police officers have chosen to file for early retirement to protect their pensions once the MUP becomes a law.
Data from the PNP showed that 1,793 police officers have filed for applications for optional retirement from Jan. 1 to July 13 this year.
For the entire 2022, 2,449 police officers filed for optional retirement.
The mandatory retirement age of police officers is 56.
PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. said they are keenly monitoring the progress of proposed measures likely to affect the 228,000-strong
police force and its retirees.
