2 dead, 1 hurt in Tondo shootings
MANILA, Philippines — Two people, including a pregnant woman, were killed and a third was wounded in shootings in Tondo, Manila before dawn yesterday.
Dyan Erica Prado, 24, was buying something at a store when her assailant shot her in the forehead, according to the Manila Police District (MPD).
Juanito Baer Jr., 24, was shot six times by two still unidentified assailants as he was buying cigarettes at another store on the second floor of the Permanent Housing building in Barangay 128 at around 5 a.m.
The MPD said his mother heard the gunshots and saw her son’s body.
Meanwhile, Abraham Caruso, 27, is being treated for gunshot and stab wounds, the MPD reported.
He was standing at the corner of Osmeña and Dandan Streets in Barangay 116 when three men attacked him from behind, police said, noting that “Otan” shot him at close range while “CJ” and “Karding Sungkit” stabbed him.
The three assailants fled after attacking Caruso, but Otan was later caught. The MPD did not provide the names of the assailants.
Investigators suspect that conflicts related to illegal drug trade in Tondo may be behind the shootings.
