No damage in Cotabato, GenSan airports due to quake
MANILA, Philippines — There was no reported damage to the airports in Cotabato and General Santos due to a magnitude 5.3 earthquake that struck Sarangani on Monday.
Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) spokesman Eric Apolonio said the managers of both airports confirmed that there was no significant damage to passenger terminal buildings and other facilities after assessment and inspection.
Normal operations resumed at the General Santos Airport, with both the terminal and runway open and fully operational.
CAAP said it coordinated with local authorities to prepare in the event of aftershocks.
The Cotabato Airport remained closed for development from July 6 to Aug. 18 as stated in the notice to airmen that CAAP released. During this period, no commercial flights will be received.
The closure is due to ongoing asphalt overlay and repainting of the runway markings.
