3 suspects in Salilig hazing in NBI custody
MANILA, Philippines — Three Tau Gamma Phi fraternity members allegedly involved in the hazing death of Adamson University student John Matthew Salilig have surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
The suspects turned themselves in to the NBI after Judge Armin Noel Villamonte of the Biñan City Regional Trial Court Branch 155 issued a warrant for their arrest for violating Republic Act 11053 or the Anti-Hazing Law.
Ryan Camangyan was the first to yield on July 13. Aron Cruz and Ralph Tan, accompanied by their lawyers, surrendered to the NBI on Sunday.
In the early investigation of the case, the car where Salilig allegedly died was discovered at Cruz’s house in Parañaque.
The suspects underwent processing such as collection of their fingerprints and having their mugshots taken.
They are in the custody of the NBI National Capital Region office, according to Henry Roxas, who has been investigating the Salilig hazing case.
“We are waiting for the court’s order on where they will be detained,” he said.
Last March, the suspects surrendered to give their statements while the NBI was conducting its preliminary probe.
They were released since no arrest warrants had been issued at the time.
Another suspect, Lester John Sus, was apprehended in Biñan City, Laguna on Thursday.
Last Friday, authorities arrested two more fraternity members, Justin Ar-Jay Fontanilla and Armando Hernandez Jr., in Cavite.
Salilig’s body was found in Imus, Cavite in February, 10 days after he was reported missing following initiation rites conducted by the fraternity members.
