MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to hold starting today a two-day procurement summit with the aim of enhancing its public bidding processes.

According to the poll body, all prospective old and new suppliers, service providers, consultants and contractors are invited to participate in its first-ever procurement summit.

“(This is) in the interest of ensuring transparency, accountability and access of private sectors to the bidding opportunities of the commission,” the Comelec said in a statement.

“(It aims) to strengthen the link between the bidders and the procurement process,” it added.

Among the issues up for discussion during the summit are general principles in government procurement, market analysis, participation in bidding activities, contract performance and other procurement-related matters.

Participation in the procurement summit to be held at the Diamond Hotel is free.

The summit was supposed to be held last month, but the Comelec reset the schedule so it could have more time to prepare and conceptualize a more comprehensive program.
