MANILA, Philippines — A criminal complaint was filed yesterday against a security guard who allegedly threw a puppy from an overpass in Quezon City on Tuesday.
The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) filed a complaint for violation of Republic Act 8485, or the Animal Welfare Act, against Jojo Malicdem before the Quezon City prosecutor’s office.
PAWS executive director Anna Cabrera said among the pieces of evidence they obtained was the sworn testimony of a witness to the incident.
If the complaint is elevated to the court, Malicdem faces a prison term of more than one year and a fine of P100,000 if convicted.
The guard’s employer, RJC Corporate Security Services Inc., has submitted its report on the incident that occurred at SM North EDSA to the Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agencies of the Philippine National Police.
A representative of the security agency said the guard has no assignment while an investigation of the incident is ongoing.
