PNP to beef up ICT infrastructure
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has taken steps to beef up its information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure.
Through a memorandum of agreement with the Philippine Fiber Optic Cabling Network Ltd. Inc. (PFCON) signed on Friday, PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. said they will conduct a proof of concept that aims to interconnect the PNP’s national headquarters and selected police units across the country.
“I am confident that this partnership with PFCON will open up new horizons for the PNP to witness firsthand the advantages of fiber optic networks in terms of enhanced speed, reliability and security of our communication systems,” Acorda said in a statement.
He said the objective of the collaboration is to explore the use of fiber optic and other technologies as potential solutions to meet the PNP’s demands for improved ICT infrastructure.
In their plan, Acorda said the infrastructure will interconnect with the PNP’s main headquarters at Camp Crame in Quezon City with its regional, provincial, city and municipal offices.
With a communications infrastructure in place, the PNP would have efficient and seamless communications across all levels of its organization.
“We are hopeful that this undertaking will contribute significantly to our efforts to modernize the PNP and align ourselves with the global standards of law enforcement,” Acorda added.
The PNP is looking forward to the outcome of the project, which will provide valuable insights into the potential benefits and feasibility of utilizing fiber optic and other technologies in the PNP’s information and communications systems.
