Senior slain, boy hurt in drug sting
MANILA, Philippines — A senior citizen was killed while a four-year-old boy was wounded when they were shot by a suspected drug dealer who was the target of a sting in Quezon City on Thursday night.
A manhunt is underway to arrest Mark Louie Gicana, who allegedly shot to death Edna Baclay, 63.
Baclay and the boy were bystanders when Gicana fired at plainclothes police officers during the sting set up by anti-narcotics operatives of the Pasong Putik police station along Kilwayan street in Barangay Sta. Monica at around 6:30 p.m., probers said.
Gicana missed and instead hit Baclay and the boy. He fled on foot from the scene as the victims’ relatives rushed them to the Novaliches District Hospital for treatment.
Baclay was declared dead on arrival while the boy was transferred to another hospital due to a fractured right arm.
Police investigators recovered six bullet casings and two deformed bullets from the scene.
