MANILA, Philippines — Two boys and four other people have drowned while swimming on beaches in Iloilo and Zambales, respectively.
Two brothers, aged 10 and 16, residents of Barangay Sta. Cruz in San Miguel, Iloilo, were swimming with their family members at Tinagong Dagat resort in Barangay Baras in Guimbal when they were swept away by the strong current.
Six companions of the victims, who were also carried away to the deep portion of the water, were rescued.
The victims were with a group of 27 people who went on a family outing.
In Zambales, Robert Tiongson, 54, a resident of Iba town, as well as Geraldine Junao-as, 54; Miguel Jacutina, 55, and Benito Salinas Jr., all residents of Pandacan, Manila, were reportedly swept away by big waves while swimming at Funtasea resort in Barangay Lipay-Dingin-Panibuatan in Iba over the weekend.
Col. Ricardo Pangan, Zambales police director, said responding policemen recovered the body of three of the victims. - Ric Sapnu
