Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY , Philippines — A policeman was gunned down in Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay yesterday.

Chief M/Sgt. Ronald Sumamban, 45, was on his motorcycle on his way to the police station when unidentified men on another motorbike overtook his vehicle along the highway in Barangay Salipyasin and opened fire, according to Zamboanga Sibugay police director Col. Eduard Mallo.

When Sumamban fell to the ground, one of the suspects reportedly took the service firearm of the policeman before escaping toward Naga town.

Mallo said Sumamban suffered gunshot wounds in the neck and chest and was declared dead on arrival at the Kabasalan Pathfinder Estate Hospital.
