MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has received 62 new fire trucks as part of its ongoing modernization plan.

Six fire trucks were turned over to the BFP yesterday while 56 more fire trucks will be turned over today, the bureau said in a statement.

The BFP acquired each fire truck for P14.5 million and allotted P1.4 billion for its modernization plan for 2022.

The bureau said the fire trucks were manufactured according to international standards and complied with specifications set by the BFP’s technical working group.

The BFP said that it currently has a shortage of 1,392 fire trucks to serve the needs of 117 million Filipinos.

The agency said it needs around 4,191 fire trucks to comply with the international standard of one fire truck per 28,000 population.

The BFP currently has only 2,799 fire trucks in its fleet nationwide.

The Hino fire trucks have 240 HP Euro-4 compliant engines, a 4,000-liters water tank with a 200-liter foam tank and can discharge 3,000 liters per minute at normal pressure.

The fire trucks are also fully equipped with sets of personal protective equipment, self-contained breathing apparatus, firefighting hoses and nozzles, foam-generating nozzle with alcohol-resistant aqueous film forming foam and other firefighting tools and accessories.
