Nueva Ecija village chief held for guns
CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines — A barangay captain in Guimba, Nueva Ecija was arrested on Monday for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
Gil Gmis of Barangay San Miguel was apprehended after a raid on his house yielded an M16 rifle, a carbine rifle, a rifle grenade, several rounds of ammunition, magazine parts and a flare gun, Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr., Central Luzon police director, said.
Hidalgo said the raid by operatives of the Central Luzon Special Operations Group, Regional Mobile Force Battalion and Guimba police was based on a search warrant issued by Guimba Third Regional Branch 33 Judge Frazierwin Viterbo.
“We have been beefing up our drive to recover and seize loose firearms through continuous police operations and implementation of search warrants against illegal gun owners,” he said.
He said the arrest of Gmis should serve as a warning to those who have not yet renewed their licenses or turned over their undocumented firearms to the police for safekeeping.
