MANILA, Philippines — The percentage of people testing positive for COVID-19 further decreased in the National Capital Region (NCR), the OCTA Research group reported yesterday.

From 6.6 percent on June 21, NCR’s seven-day positivity rate dropped to 5.6 percent as of June 28, OCTA fellow Guido David said in an advisory.

The positivity rate indicates the number of people who test positive out of the total RT-PCR tests conducted.

The World Health Organization previously recommended a positivity rate of five percent or below to effectively manage the pandemic.

While it does not take into account tests using the more popular antigen tests, OCTA earlier said that monitoring the positivity rate could still help show trends on whether cases are increasing or decreasing.

NCR’s positivity rate reached over 25 percent last month following the spike in new cases.

The government reported 503 new cases (including 131 in NCR) on Thursday, up from 385 (including 79 in NCR) the previous day.
