Quezon City government aids more business startups

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City government has opened the application process for the second batch of businesses that will be supported by its Startup QC Program.

Launched last year, the program aims to strengthen, promote and develop the city’s startup business ecosystem by providing qualified entrepreneurs with grants of up to P1 million.

The application period will run until July 12. Additional details are available at qceservices.quezoncity.gov.ph.

Last May, city hall announced the five startups that were chosen to be part of the program’s first cohort.

These were the Bamboo Impact Lab, EdukSine, Indigo AI Research, ITOOH Homestyle and Wika.

Aside from eligibility to get the financial grant, the shortlisted startups participated in mentorship sessions to support their respective business goals.

“These startup finalists went through an extensive application and screening process following a set of criteria that places high standards on innovativeness, creativity, sustainability and social relevance, among others, which I believe reflect the shared values and ideals of our city,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.

The startup finalists will present their final pitches in August.

The Startup QC Program is supported by various partners, including the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Department of Trade and Industry, Ateneo de Manila University, Miriam College, Technological Institute of the Philippines, Thames International Business School, University of the Philippines Diliman and Launchgarage.
