1 arrested for P4.9 million ecstasy powder
MANILA, Philippines — A woman was arrested at the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) in Pasay yesterday afternoon for allegedly claiming a parcel sent from Belgium that contained 1.46 kilos of ecstasy powder, formed into slabs, valued at P4.9 million.
Charito Casamello, 38, of Manuyo Uno in Las Piñas City, was apprehended after she received the parcel sent by Maria Suarez.
The parcel – declared to contain headphones, a tumbler, dresses and a chopping board – arrived from Belgium on June 20 and was physically examined yesterday after being subjected to X-ray scanning, according to CMEC customs sub-port collector Mark Almase.
The operation was staged by the Customs Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
Almase said the slabs of ecstasy powder were turned over to PDEA officers for the filing of charges against Casamello.
