Davao Oriental sea mishap: 2 dead, 7 missing
MANILA, Philippines — The body of another crewmember of a fishing boat that sank off the coast of Davao Oriental on Thursday was recovered yesterday, bringing the death toll to two.
Seven fishermen remain missing, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported yesterday.
Fourteen of the 23 crewmembers of Genesis 2 were rescued by fishing vessels in the area on Thursday.
“We’re still looking for seven (people),” Dandy Orcales of the PCG said.
The PCG deployed BRP Tubbataha to conduct search and rescue operations.
Orcales said five vessels owned by the fishing company are assisting in the operations.
The cause of the sea mishap is still being investigated.
The boat captain said the vessel sank following a sudden change in the sea condition.
The owner of the ill-fated vessel was identified as Ogdi Fishing Company, which is based in General Santos City.
