MANILA, Philippines — A fisherman died and nine others were reported missing when a fishing boat sank in the waters off Davao Oriental early yesterday.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said 14 other crewmembers of FB Genesis 2 were rescued by fishing boats within the area.
The PCG deployed BRP Tubbataha to conduct search and rescue operations.
The owner of Genesis 2 also deployed its fleet to assist in the operations.
The boat captain, Allan Donaire, said the sea mishap occurred following a sudden change in the sea condition off Baganga town at around midnight.
At around 1 a.m., the fishing boat was half-submerged.
