MANILA, Philippines — A fisherman died and nine others were reported missing when a fishing boat sank in the waters off Davao Oriental early yesterday.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said 14 other crewmembers of FB Genesis 2 were rescued by fishing boats within the area.

The PCG deployed BRP Tubbataha to conduct search and rescue operations.

The owner of Genesis 2 also deployed its fleet to assist in the operations.

The boat captain, Allan Donaire, said the sea mishap occurred following a sudden change in the sea condition off Baganga town at around midnight.

At around 1 a.m., the fishing boat was half-submerged.
