Bus, truck collide in La Union; 1 dead
BALAOAN, La Union , Philippines — A truck driver died and three other people were injured when his vehicle collided with a passenger bus along the highway in Barangay Calungbuyan in this town at around 11 p.m. on Thursday.
S/Sgt. Rodel Licudan identified the fatality as Fredie Rivamonte, 43, a resident of Urdaneta City.
Bus driver Norlan Lorenzo, 46; bus passenger Jerald Jay Pescado, 29, and an unidentified truck helper were injured.
Licudan said the truck was heading south when it swerved into the opposite lane and collided with an incoming bus.
Both vehicles incurred heavy damage.
Meanwhile, in Quezon, Christopher David, 34, driver of a trailer truck loaded with two backhoes, died when the vehicle fell into a ravine in Sitio Kagusisan, Barangay Magsikap in General Nakar, also on Thursday.
M/Sgt. Eric Vasquez said truck helper Rodolfo Villasanta, who managed to jump from the vehicle, was unharmed.
Rescuers have yet to retrieve the body of David and the vehicle from the ravine. — Michelle Zoleta
