MANILA, Philippines — A still unidentified motorcycle rider was decapitated in a hit-and-run along the Bus Carousel lane near the EDSA-Shaw Boulevard underpass yesterday morning.

Among the vehicles that may have hit the motorcycle at past 5 a.m.was a white sport utility vehicle (SUV), according to a 10-minute closed-circuit television (CCTV) video provided by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

The SUV changed lanes after hitting the rider.

A fuel tanker, which was being driven along the lane next to the Bus Carousel lane, ran over the motorcycle rider.

The driver of the fuel tanker sped away following the collision, followed by the SUV, according to the footage.

The incident caused a slowdown in traffic along EDSA that lasted around three hours, according to earlier reports.

Acting MMDA Chairman Romando Artes appealed for understanding from motorists stuck in heavy traffic, saying police had to process the crime scene.

The MMDA is set to submit the CCTV footage to police investigators, who would take charge of identifying the motorists involved in the accident, which occurred when the underpass was still dark.

The MMDA plans to install more lights along EDSA’s tunnels, Artes said.

He also called on witnesses to come forward and shed light on the accident.
