BI nabs Chinese woman linked to human trafficking
MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested a Chinese woman, allegedly wanted in her country for human trafficking, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 on Saturday.
Zheng Yuyu, 39, was about to board a flight for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia when she was arrested by the BI’s Border Control and Intelligence Unit (BCIU), the bureau said in a statement yesterday.
The BCIU is also searching for Chen Dongxin, who has become an undocumented alien after his Chinese passport expired, according to BCIU deputy chief Joseph Cueto.
Zheng and Chen, who remains at large, are accused of organizing people to illegally cross China’s territorial borders.
BI prosecutors sought their deportation for being undesirable aliens.
Cueto said the charges were filed after the Chinese embassy informed the BI that the two are wanted in their country for large-scale human trafficking.
BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco ordered Zheng’s commitment to the BI warden facility at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig, where she would remain while undergoing deportation proceedings. She has been in the BI’s wanted list since April 9. — Rudy Santos
