MANILA, Philippines — Eleven people were injured when two passenger buses figured in an accident along the EDSA Carousel in Quezon City on Sunday night.
The mishap occurred along the northbound lane of EDSA in Barangay Bagong Pag-asa at around 9:21 p.m., according to police.
Probers said Redine Bangcaya, 51, driver of a Pascual Liner bus, attempted to enter the bus lane by swerving to the left side.
The vehicle then hit a Joyselle Express bus, which was traveling along the lane reserved for commuter buses and emergency vehicles.
Police said the victims suffered injuries due to the accident.
They were Rechie Alpapara, 45; Catherine Frias, 38; Liezel Borac, 38; Norie Borac, 27; Ralph Aldaz, 30; Arcykin Sumsona, 20; Jeven Lindayao, 29; Reyna Santos, 33; Erica Mae Garpin, 28; Mary Grace Ubina, 42, and Joyselle Express bus conductor Raymark Salazar, 31.
First aid responders brought the victims to the East Avenue Medical Center and Quezon City General Hospital for treatment.
Several concrete barriers were also destroyed in the accident.
Police took into custody Bangcaya and the other bus driver, 26-year-old April Boy Rada, for investigation.
