‘Coconut thief’ shot dead
MANILA, Philippines — A man accused of stealing coconuts was shot dead by a responding policeman in Burdeos, Quezon on Thursday.
Randy Velasco, 40, a resident of Barangay Cabugao, died on the way to a rural health unit clinic.
Police said Velasco, who was caught stealing coconuts, attacked responding village watchmen and police with a bolo.
Cpl. Jeffry Lopez reportedly shot the feet of the suspect to stop him from attacking them. Although wounded, Velasco reportedly kept on attacking the law enforcers, prompting Lopez to shoot him in the body.
Meanwhile, in Cavite, a manhunt for a certain Boris Morija is underway after he allegedly shot his two neighbors who confronted him about his noisy dog.
Cavite police director Col. Christopher Olazo said Morija had an argument with Johayber Dimangadap and Nazario Davuda.
Police said the victims remain in critical condition at the General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital. — Michelle Zoleta, Emmanuel Tupas
