Wanted Taiwanese faces deportation

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A Taiwanese man wanted in his country for large-scale fraud will be deported, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced yesterday.

Yin Chih Chou, 40, was arrested by members of the BI fugitive search unit in a condominium along Adriatico street in Ermita, Manila on May 11, according to Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco.

Tansingco said Chou’s arrest was made upon the request of Taiwanese authorities.

“He will be deported as soon as the BI board of commissioners issues the order for his summary deportation. He will be blacklisted and banned from re-entering the Philippines,” Tansingco said.

He said Chou violated the country’s immigration laws for overstaying and for being an undocumented foreigner after his passport was revoked by the Taiwanese government.

Chou is being held at the BI jail at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.

Records showed that he arrived in the Philippines on July 19, 2018.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Manila said the fugitive’s arrest warrant for fraud was issued by the Taiwan Hsinchu district prosecutor’s office two months before he fled to the Philippines.
