Elizabeth Marcelo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Vice President (OVP) yesterday inaugurated an extension office in Tondo, Manila to speed up the delivery of medical and burial assistance as well as other social services to the public.

Vice President Sara Duterte led the opening of the OVP Public Assistance Division Tondo extension office along Mel Lopez Boulevard.

“We opened this office because we know that many of you need the services of the government,” Duterte said in Filipino, addressing the residents in Delpan.

Last month, the OVP opened its first extension office in Lipa, Batangas. The OVP has existing satellite offices in the cities of Bacolod, Cebu, Cauayan, Dagupan, Davao, Tacloban, Tandag and Zamboanga.

The OVP said it aims to further expand its reach to indigent communities.

Aside from medical and burial assistance, other programs of the OVP include school supplies distribution for students, free rides for workers as well as entrepreneurship and livelihood for women.
