Camp Vicente Lim, Laguna, Philippines — A drug suspect who earlier surrendered to the police was killed in an alleged shootout in Quezon province on Saturday.
Marlon Mendoza, alias Ano, died at the scene of the incident that occurred in Sariaya town, according to Col. Ledon Monte, Quezon police director.
Reports said that police officers along with barangay officials knocked on Mendoza’s house to serve a warrant for his arrest.
Instead of opening the door, the suspect allegedly fired at the officers and escaped through the backdoor.
An officer who was securing the area fired back, killing the suspect instantly.
Meanwhile, in Cebu, illegal drugs with an estimated value of P8 million were seized in separate operations that resulted in the arrest of six suspects over the weekend.
The drugs were seized in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Talisay, according Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, Central Visayas police director.
Drug suspects Milagrosa Bacong and Marlon Rivera were arrested on Saturday following a sting along Zuellig street in Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
Police said they seized from the suspects at least a kilo of shabu with an estimated street value of P6.8 million, a cell phone, bag and a car.
On the same day, Novelyn Ngipin and Wilson Matunhay reportedly yielded 60 grams of shabu with an estimated value of P408,000 in Barangay Poblacion in Talisay.
Meanwhile, Wendelyn Mejia and a minor were arrested in a sting in Guadalupe, Cebu City yesterday morning.
Police said they seized from the suspects at least 100 grams of suspected shabu worth P680,000. — Ralph Edwin Villanueva
