Nueva Vizcaya Governor Padilla, 78
MANILA, Philippines — Nueva Vizcaya Gov. Carlos Padilla has died. He was 78.
The governor died of a heart attack yesterday, according to his family.
In a photo posted on Facebook, Padilla was seen attending the inauguration of a school building in Barangay Sto. Domingo West on Thursday.
Padilla was first elected governor in 2016. He won a third term in last year’s elections.
He started his political career as the first mayor of the old Dupax town. He was also the first mayor of Dupax del Norte when the town was split into Dupax del Norte, Dupax del Sur and Alfonso Castañeda.
He served as representative of the lone district of Nueva Vizcaya for 29 years, where he was deputy speaker and minority leader.
Padilla was the author of several landmark laws, including Republic Act 6655 or the Free Public Secondary Education Act. — Victor Martin
