SUV rams electric posts; 1 dead, 6 hurt

ZAMBOANGA, Philippines — A woman died while six others were seriously injured when a sport utility vehicle rammed several electric posts along the highway in this city on Monday.

The fatality was identified as Joy Mendoza. Her husband, M/Sgt. Roger de la Cruz of the Zamboanga city police, was among those seriously injured.

Lt. Col. Paul Andrew Cortes, city police spokesman, said the victims had just attended a birthday party when the accident occurred.

Initial investigation showed De la Cruz, who was driving the vehicle, lost control of the wheel when he felt drowsy.
