Court to reopen De Lima drug case
MANILA, Philippines — A Muntinlupa City court has approved the petition of government prosecutors to reopen one of the drug complaints filed against detained former senator Leila de Lima.
Lawyer Darwin Canete, one of the prosecutors in the case, confirmed to The STAR yesterday that the court granted the motion filed by the prosecution. However, the prosecution panel was given only one day to present its witness, Demiteer Huerta of the Public Attorney’s Office.
“We will present the testimony of a rebuttal witness on Friday,” Canete said in a Viber message.
One of the two remaining drug cases against De Lima, which was filed before the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court Branch 204, has been submitted for decision.
Last week, state prosecutors moved to reopen the case and present a new witness against De Lima, who was accused of receiving drug money when she was justice secretary.
