Makati heat index hits ‘dangerous’ level
MANILA, Philippines — The Makati City government advised residents to stay indoors after the heat index reached the “dangerous” level of 44 degrees Celsius yesterday.
In a Facebook post, city hall said its disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) office recorded a “’dangerous’ heat index level of 44 degrees Celsius… in Makati at 11:05 a.m.”
Residents are “advised to take proper precautions to avoid heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke,” it added.
The heat index in the city also reached a dangerous level of 45.9 degrees Celsius on Monday afternoon.
According to the city’s DRRM office, the period between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. is a “critical” one, which has a “dangerous” level of discomfort due to the heat.
