MANILA, Philippines — A South Korean man was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 on Monday for allegedly presenting a fake Philippine passport as he was about to board a flight to Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
In a statement, BI Commissioner Normal Tansingco said the 43-year-old man, whose name was withheld, also presented a postal identification card and a local driver’s license.
The South Korean was arrested after he “could not answer in any Filipino dialect,” prompting the immigration officer to refer him for secondary inspection, according to Tansingco.
The BI official said the man eventually “admitted that he used to have a South Korean passport and obtained his Philippine passport through another Korean.”
Tansingco said he is seeking to conduct an investigation on the Korean’s “fraudulently acquired Philippine passport.” – Rudy Santos
