LTO cracks down on choosy cab drivers
MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will revive its “Oplan Isnabero” campaign after receiving complaints against selective taxi drivers as thousands of people started returning to Metro Manila after the Holy Week break, an official said yesterday.
LTO National Capital Region West director Roque Verzosa III said personnel of the agency were instructed to apprehend taxi drivers refusing to provide services to passengers.
Verzosa signed a memorandum order on the campaign against erring taxi drivers. The order takes effect today until April 14.
“We will make sure that taxi drivers who refuse to take passengers will be sanctioned,” Verzosa said.
He said taxi drivers refusing to transport passengers to their destination face revocation of certificates of public conveyance and may be fined up to P15,000.
The LTO does not tolerate bad behavior of taxi drivers, Verzosa said.
He assured the public that the LTO is prepared for the surge of motorists returning from the provinces.
The LTO NCR West covers the cities of Manila, Pasay, Makati, Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Muntinlupa and Las Piñas.
Travelers started returning to Metro Manila as early as Sunday after the long holiday break.
