10 Pasay jail escapees recaptured

MANILA, Philippines — All 10 detainees who bolted from the detention cell of the Malibay police station in Pasay City were recaptured, police reported yesterday.

Richard dela Cruz, 27, who is facing drug charges, was caught in the Sgt. Mariano Cemetery in Pasay at around 5:10 p.m.

Also captured the same day was 28-year-old Norman Deyta, the alleged brains of the jailbreak, who was caught along Apelo Cruz street in Barangay 152 at around 10 a.m.

Maj. Hazel Asilo, spokesperson for the Southern Police District, said the 9mm handgun Deyta stole from a police officer he and other escapees beat up during the jailbreak, was recovered from the inmate.

Another escapee, Romeo Estopa, was recaptured in Pasay, specifically along Mulawin street in Barangay 179 at around 6:45 a.m.

Escapee Carlo Benavides was caught in Barangay Medicion II-E in Imus City, Cavite at around 7:15 a.m.

In the wake of the incident, Pasay police chief Col. Froilan Uy said they transferred the 25 other inmates who did not join the jailbreak to other police detention facilities in the city.
