Vlogger who defaced bank notes arrested
MANILA, Philippines — A social media influencer who allegedly produced a video of himself destroying currency notes to gain followers last year was arrested in Quezon City yesterday.
Arnold Rogero, 34, was apprehended by operatives of the police Anti-Cybercrime Group at his residence in Barangay Commonwealth at around 9:30 a.m., ACG spokesperson Capt. Michelle Sabino told reporters in a message on Viber.
Police officers served Rogero an arrest warrant issued by Quezon City Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 133 Judge Gloria Monica Lopez-Lao for violating Presidential Decree 247, which pro-hibits and penalizes the defacement, mutilation, tearing, burning or destruction of central bank notes and coins.
Rogero was brought to the Quezon City Police District’s criminal investigation and detection unit while processing his bail, which the court set at P30,000.
The ACG last year filed complaints against Rogero and five other content creators for their videos showing them destroying bank notes.
Rogero, also known as “Cholo TV,” has over 248,000 followers on his Facebook page.
