Cotabato City, Philippines — A barangay treasurer in Montawal, Maguindanao del Sur was gunned down and robbed of the money he had just withdrawn from a bank on Monday.
Amerodin Ugka of Barangay Inug-Ug in Pagalungan town was on a motorcycle when unidentified men who waited for him along the highway opened fire, Capt. Nurjhasier Sali, Montawal police chief, said.
Sali said probers have yet to determine the amount of money in Ugka’s bag that the assailants took.
Meanwhile, in Basilan, Robert Jalal, chairman of Barangay Sambaingon in Lamitan City, was wounded in an ambush that left his driver Omar Akirin dead.
Jalal’s companions Akil Nasala and Muslimin Sali were wounded aside from public school teacher Roel Infante who was caught in the crossfire.
Police are eyeing rido or clan war as the motive for the gun attack.
