Davao workers to get pay hike

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Employees of small retail and service companies in Davao region will receive an increase in their daily take-home pay, the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) said yesterday.

Starting April 1, retail and service companies employing not more than 10 workers were mandated to provide an increase of P15 in the daily pay of their employees.

“The third tranche of pay hike provided under Wage Order RBXI-21 will raise the minimum daily wage rate in the region to P443,” the NWPC said.

The prevailing daily minimum wage for industrial and retail companies with more than 10 workers is P443. Workers in the agriculture sector receive P438 daily.

In June 2022, the regional wage board ordered the granting of salary increases in tranches.

The first tranche of P31 was given upon the effectivity of the wage order and the second tranche of P16 was given in January.

Workers in Metro Manila as well as in other regions have been seeking pay hikes to help them cope with the rising cost of essential commodities and services.
