MANILA, Philippines — Informants who were instrumental in the confiscation of 575 kilos of shabu valued at P4 billion in Baguio City early this week received P4 million in cash incentives from the Philippine National Police (PNP) yesterday.

PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. presided over the ceremonial turnover of the cash reward at Camp Crame.

Azurin showed the money, but the tipsters were not presented to the media.

He said it was decided not to present the informants for their protection, citing  a follow-up operation against other people behind the drug haul.

“Ang iniimbestigahan natin diyan ay baka meron pang mga karagdagang mahuhuli,” Azurin said.

He said the cash incentive is the biggest the PNP had so far given to informants this year.

Chinese national Hui Ming, alias Tan, was apprehended during a raid on a rented warehouse where the illegal drugs were found.

3 suspects slain in CDO sting

Meanwhile, three drug suspects were killed in a sting in Barangay Carmen in Cagayan de Oro recently, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Northern Mindanao office reported yesterday.

PDEA said Henrylle Go and Deovern Uy died at the scene while Aramina Hizon died while being treated in a hospital.

Go was reportedly wearing a police uniform during the drug bust, Expedito Cardona Jr., provincial officer of PDEA’s Misamis Oriental field office, said.

Cardona said the shootout occurred when Go pulled his gun after sensing that he was dealing with undercover agents. — Gerry Lee Gorit
