2 motorists run over safety officer

MANILA, Philippines — A barangay public safety officer (BPSO) was killed by two motorists who hit him and ran him over in Quezon City on Thursday.

The incident that led to the death of Ruel Francobit, 56, of Barangay Greater Lagro occurred at around 2 a.m., according to police.

According to police investigators, Francobit and other BPSOs were patrolling Bristol street when they noticed two suspicious-looking vehicles, an Isuzu Traviz lightweight truck and a Mitsubishi L-300 van, parked in the area.

When they approached the vehicles, the driver of the truck, whom police identified as Cris Anthony Nollas, 22, drove off and hit Francobit.

The van’s driver, Luduig Aldrich Magtibay, 25, ran over the victim.

Francobit was rushed to Tala Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The suspects abandoned their vehicles at separate locations in Caloocan City, in Amparo Subdivision and along Llano Road.

It turned out that Magtibay voluntarily surrendered to police Traffic Sector 2.

When confronted by Francobit’s companions, they identified Magtibay as one of the suspects.

Magtibay is being held on charges of murder while a manhunt was launched for Nollas, a resident of Barangay Krus Na Ligas in Quezon City.
