Nazarene motorcade set on Good Friday
MANILA, Philippines — A motorcade procession of the image of the Black Nazarene will be held on Good Friday by the city government of Manila and the Quiapo Church, three months after the Feast of the Black Nazarene in January.
Quiapo Church spokesman Fr. Earl Valdez told reporters in a Viber message yesterday that the motorcade will be held at 12:01 a.m. on April 7.
Valdez said they have yet to discuss the route of the motorcade but noted that it is “surely within the boundaries allowed by the local government” of Manila and within the jurisdiction of Quiapo Church.
There will also be an increase in security personnel during the Holy Week as the church expects an influx of Nazarene devotees, though not as many as those deployed during the Feast of the Black Nazarene, he added.
Asked if the motorcade is part of preparations for the possible resumption of the traslacion in January next year, Valdez said that all the church’s activities are part of preparations for the Feast of the Black Nazarene in 2024.
However, he stressed they do not yet know what will happen in 2024.
Valdez said the traditional traslacion held during the Feast of the Black Nazarene might resume next year, but it would be given careful thought.
