BARMM regional police chief arrested for 'syndicated estafa'
COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Agents of the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group arrested on Wednesday night the police director of the Bangsamoro region for two separate "syndicated estafa" cases pending in different Quezon City courts.
Police Brig. Gen. John Guyguyon, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, voluntarily turned himself in when personnel of CIDG served him separate warrants for his arrest at the headquarters of PRO-BAR in nearby Parang town in Maguindanao del Sur.
Guyguyon got to the helm of the police office of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao in late 2022.
The warrants for his arrest were issued by Quezon City Regional Trial Court branches 91 and 104.
Officials of PRO-BAR confirmed to reporters Guyguyon’s arrest and subsequent detention by the CIDG and announced that his deputy, Police Brig. Gen.Francis Gorobia Tria, will be acting chief.
The courts did not recommend bail.
