MANILA, Philippines — Two persons were arrested for allegedly duping a woman in the sale of an iPhone in Parañaque on Monday.

LR Jay Quiton, 39, and Joan Arquillos, 31, were apprehended by police officers from the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) in Barangay San Antonio at around 7:40 p.m

They allegedly negotiated a deal with the victim on Facebook using a fake account for the sale of an iPhone 11 for P15,000.

The victim sent the suspects P2,000 as initial payment using mobile wallet app GCash. After she gave an additional P8,000, the suspects blocked the victim on Facebook, the ACG said.

Acting on the victim’s complaint, ACG operatives staged a sting to catch the suspects, who yielded two cell phones and P4,915 in marked money.

Police are preparing charges of estafa in relation to Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act against the suspects.
