MANILA, Philippines — A security guard and his partner were found dead at their home in Bagong Silang, Caloocan yesterday morning.

The bodies of Edgardo Mananquil, 56, and Julieta Espinola, 46, were found by Espinola’s daughter Aizy Isaac, 29, at around 8:40 a.m. Aizy called barangay officials for help.

Espinola’s body was on the wooden sofa in the living room while her partner was sprawled on the floor near her. Both had been stabbed, police said, adding that a kitchen knife 13.5 inches long was found near the man’s feet.

S/Sgt. Michael Formento, one of the case investigators, said they have yet to determine who stabbed the victims.

“Everything is circumstantial as of now,” Formento told The STAR, noting that the house bore no signs of forced entry.

Aizy; her brother Marcos Isaac, 22, and the couple’s adopted son, identified only as Totoy, 15, told police they heard the couple arguing on Saturday night. All three live in the same house as the victims.

Totoy and Marcos said Mananquil told them he would kill himself, with Marcos adding that his stepfather could not sleep and did not know what to do, according to investigators.
