Barangay chief, 3 others hurt in Manila fire

MANILA, Philippines — Four people, including a barangay captain and a child, were injured in a fire that broke out in Sta. Cruz, Manila yesterday.

Barangay 317, Zone 32 captain Rogelio Basilio, 53; Ranier Contemplo, 41; Kristine Contemplo, 35, and Ritch Contemplo, 4, suffered injuries from the fire that started on the second floor of a two-story house at the corner of Bambang and Kalimbas street at around 6:31 a.m.

The fire reached second alarm before it was put out at around 7:51 a.m., the Bureau of Fire Protection said.

Arson probers are investigating the cause of the blaze.
