ZAMBOANGA CITY , Philippines — Sixty-nine master cases of smuggled cigarettes were confiscated in this city yesterday.
Intelligence operatives of the Police Station 7 were on their way to the station when they chanced on a multicab while workers were unloading the cigarettes in front of an apartment in Barangay Tetuan.
“When about to interview and verify pertinent documents, the laborers scampered to various directions and left the vehicle and boxes,” Col. Alexander Lorenzo, city police chief, said.
He said the smuggled cigarettes have an estimated value of P2.5 million.
Police said the apartment was utilized to store smuggled cigarettes.
The confiscated items will be turned over to the Bureau of Customs for disposition.
